Red Raiders bring home golden ball, first time in 92 years

Red Raiders bring home golden ball,...

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - It's a feeling of victory anytime a sports team takes home a state championship trophy.

For La Crosse Central High School, that feeling is hard to put into words.

The last time Central's boys basketball team brought home the golden ball was in 1925 and 92 years later, one of their biggest dreams became a reality.

The team spent the weekend in Madison, defeating both Waunakee and Cedarburg high schools.
With final seconds in the Division 2 state title, the team made another historic moment for La Crosse.
I think this year we just kind of let it happen, we just kind of let it settle in a little bit and like I said we got two great wins," said Red Raiders senior Kobe King.
But they say they might not have been able to do it without over 1,200 dedicated fans.
Vicky Lien is one of those fans. She's been the team's bus driver for 11 years.
Each year she was waiting for this moment so when it finally happened, her and over a thousand other fans shared a special moment, one the community will remember 92 years from now.
"They worked so hard and they're so amazing and they deserve it," Lien said.
