LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) -

The Red Cross is asking for the community's for help as the blood supply slowly dwindles.

The organization says the cold and winter weather forced nearly 1, 500 blood drives to be canceled already this year. Obviously, that's creating a shortage in its supply.

They are looking especially for O negative, O positive, A negative, and B negative.

"On an average, typical day, the Red Cross, we collect about 1,500 units of blood and we supply about 2,700 hospitals and transfusion centers across the nation, so the need is constant and it's urgent," said Kyle Kriegl with the Scenic Bluffs Chapter of the Red Cross.

More details on donating can be found on the Red Cross' website, or by calling 1-800- REDCROSS.
