LA CROSSE, WI -

You may need to bring an umbrella if you’re planning on going to Oktoberfest’s Torchlight Parade Thursday night.

StormTeam 8 Meteorologist Bill Graul says, as of Thursday afternoon, there’s a 30-percent chance of rain for the parade. The parade is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Graul says the latest model data has another batch of rain moving through this afternoon from 2-6 p.m. Then the model shows it looks mainly dry from about 6-10 p.m. with more storms developing after about 10 p.m.

“Choosing to cancel is typically a ‘game-time decision’ in that we want to make every effort to conduct the parade. However, safety is always our first concern,” said Kevin Buelow, Oktoberfest Board of Directors Secretary.

The Torchlight Parade parade starts at Kane Street and Gillette Street, goes south on Caledonia Street and ends at St. James and Caledonia Street. Patti Lokken, of Operation Homefront, is the parade marshall this year.

Be sure to check the local radar throughout the day and stay with StormTeam 8 on Facebook.

The Torchlight Parade was canceled due to lightning and high winds in 2009. In 2011, severe weather broke just 15 minutes before the parade was to start.

Regardless of the weather, the Northside Post-Torchlight Parade Party will go on as scheduled. Beginning at 4 p.m., the Northside Festplatz will transition to 21-and-over. You must also have a 2013 Oktoberfest button to enter. The Far Outs will play from 8 p.m. – midnight.
