Attorneys in the murder trial of a former Iowa jail guard accused of killing his pregnant wife have questioned a psychiatrist about the mental health of the couple's former neighbor.
The Ottumwa Courier reports Dr. James Trahan of the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames testified about Brian Tate's mental health at the time of his death in September 2012.
Tate lived near Seth Techel and his wife, Lisa. Seth Techel is charged with first-degree murder in the May 2012 death of his wife. Defense attorneys say Tate is a better suspect in the case, but prosecutors say there's no evidence to that argument.
Trahan says Tate was mentally ill shortly before his death, but it doesn't say anything about his mental state in May when Lisa Techel died.
