The Department of Natural resources is warning residents with private wells to be extra wary of their water once the weather gets warmer.
The warmer temperatures and increased rainfall can cause bacteria to grow inside your well and contaminate your drinking water.
If you're noticing any changes to the color, smell or taste of your water, D.N.R. officials say to stop drinking it and immediately have it tested. "It's the simple matter of picking of a sterile water bottle, going to the home, collecting the water from the faucet, and then bringing back to the laboratory for analysis," Jim Steinhoff from the La Crosse Co. Health Dept.
The warning is for anyone with a private water well as public water systems are designed to filter contaminants out.
Anyone with concerns about their drinking water should contact their county health department.
