The Polk County sheriff's office is investigating an incident in which one of its dogs bit a bystander during a search for another man.
The sheriff's office says in a news release the incident happened Thursday evening when deputies were chasing a vehicle in northern Des Moines.
The driver stopped the vehicle and ran into a wooded area, prompting a deputy to release his dog to search for him.
Instead of seeking the man, the dog, named Dameon, ran to a man standing beside a garage and bit his leg and arm.
The sheriff's office says 25-year-old Andrew Levy was treated at a hospital and released.
The dog isn't in service during an investigation.
