Walker stops in De Soto, talks about...

DE SOTO, Wis. (WKBT) - Wisconsin's Governor stopped in our area Tuesday, focusing on his proposed funding increases to the state's education system.

Governor Scott Walker spoke at De Soto's Prairie View Elementary School while recognizing impactful teachers. Walker focused on his proposed funding increases to the state's Kindergarten through 12 schools and rural schools.

Walker says his biggest priority is improving Wisconsin's economy. Improving education will lead the state in that direction.

"Workforce is the number one issue, and top of the list if you're talking about preparing for workforce needs now and in the future is making sure our students have, in every school district, whether it's rural or urban or suburban or anywhere in between, that every student has access to a great education,” said Governor Walker.

Walker's proposed budget could provide another $1.5 million in funding to the De Soto Area School District.
