Grothman urging rejection of rent-to-own rules
A Republican member of the Legislature's budget committee says he doesn't know if he's convinced enough of his colleagues to reject a proposal freeing rent-to-own businesses from Wisconsin's consumer protection act.
Sen. Glenn Grothman on Monday joined with a representative of the Wisconsin Catholic Conference and the director of the consumer advocacy group WISPIRG to once again speak out against the provision in Gov. Scott Walker's budget.
Grothman is one of 12 Republicans on the budget committee. He would have to convince four other Republicans to join with him and the four Democrats to get the rent-to-own provisions removed.
Grothman says he thinks four other Republicans want to reject the proposal "in their heart," but he doesn't know if they will follow through.
