The democratic frontrunner for governor, Mary Burke, campaigned in La Crosse Wednesday morning.
Burke visited the sustainable and organic Deep Roots farm in rural La Crosse. Burke claims that Wisconsin has lost 9,000 farms in the past five years.
She wants to grow training opportunities for people wanting to go into agriculture and believes it's important to incorporate it in our schools.
"We need to get more young people interested in farming and understanding why it can be a good career, a good way to support a family and also make sure people in middle ages are continuing to farm,” said Burke.
Governor Scott Walker is on the other side of the state. On Wednesday, Walker requested a disaster declaration from the US Small Business Administration for Grant and surrounding counties.
That would provide low interest loans to businesses and individuals affected by the recent storms.
