Wis. gov promises $6.4 billion for transportation

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -

Gov. Scott Walker plans to use a combination of federal aids, general fund revenue and bonding to cover more than $800 million in new transportation spending in his executive budget.

Walker announced Friday his budget will include $6.4 billion for a range of transportation projects, including rebuilding Milwaukee's Zoo Interchange. About $824 million of that will be additional money over the last budget.

His office says the governor plans to generate that money using $161 million from the general fund, the petroleum inspection fund and federal transit aid. The remaining $662 million will come from bonding.
