Former La Crosse mayor John Medinger is dropping out of the race to win his job back.
Medinger told News 8 Tuesday afternoon he's dropping out because he couldn't get his energy and enthusiasm going, and his heart wasn't in it.
Medinger announced his candidacy less than two weeks ago. He says ever since then, he wasn't sleeping well and was very unhappy with his decision.
He says he's dropping out now before the campaign gets too involved. He says he's sorry to disappoint all the people who were putting their faith and trust in him to lead the city in the future.
Medinger served two terms as mayor starting in 1997.
