An eight term congressional incumbent and his republican challenger squared off Tuesday night in their only public debate.
Democratic Representative Ron Kind and Republican challenger Colonel Ray Boland debated on the UW-La Crosse campus. They're trying to win the 3rd Congressional District seat.
The hour long debate covered issues spanning from Obamacare, to the deficit, to social security.
While they disagreed on a lot of the issues, the tone of the debate was very civil. And when it came to some social issues, the candidates found some common ground.
"I think it's wrong to put a government bureaucrat in the way of a woman and her doctor and her spouse and her clergy. I think that is such a fundamentally private right they possess," said Kind. "I am pro-life, I'm opposed to abortion, but I don't have to make that decision personally, and I don't want bureaucrats making it for someone else," said Boland.
You can see the entire hour-long debate this Saturday night. We will be broadcasting it Saturday, November 3rd, immediately following our 10 p.m. newscast.
