Bill Clinton hits campaign trail again

Bill Clinton was arguably the Democratic Party's biggest rock star on the campaign trail last year, and now the former president appears to be getting ready to hit the trail again.

CNN has confirmed that Clinton will be in his native state of Arkansas on March 16 to help Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor kick off his 2014 re-election bid. The fundraiser, in Little Rock, the state capital, will be headlined by Clinton, who served 12 years as Arkansas governor before being elected president in 1992.

The state's current governor, Democrat Mike Bebe, will also be on hand, as will Pryor's father, former congressman, governor and senator David Pryor, and former senator and governor Dale Bumpers.

While the two-term Pryor won re-election in 2008 without any GOP opposition, he will most likely face a fierce Republican challenge next year. And the early start for Pryor's campaign kickoff illustrates how seriously he's taking his re-election bid.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette first reported news of the Pryor campaign event and the former president's participation.

Democrats currently have a 55-45 advantage in the Senate (with two independent senators caucusing with the Democrats). They are currently defending 21 of the 35 seats up for grabs next year.
