President's best friend: White House pets
Bo the Portuguese water dog is just the latest furry member of the first family to inhabit the White House. Take a look at photos of first pets dating back to the late 1800s.
First lady Grace Coolidge, wife of President Calvin Coolidge, shows her pet raccoon, Rebecca, to children gathered on the White House lawn for an Easter Egg Roll. The Coolidges also had 11 dogs, two cats, another raccoon, a bobcat, a donkey and several birds. Foreign leaders also gave them lion cubs, a wallaby, a pigmy hippo and a bear as gifts.
