WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -

Police say a knife-wielding man shot by a Waterloo officer is recovering from surgery for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that Police Capt. Tim Pillack says the officer has been taken off patrol duties while the shooting is investigated.

Police say four officers were dispatched around 1 a.m. Wednesday to check a report of a man with a knife in downtown Waterloo. The officers say the man was shot after he menaced them with his knife. None of the officers was injured.

The names of those involved and other information about the incident haven't been released.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting.
