LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

As the weather starts to get warmer, the number of injuries on playgrounds typically increases.

Monday kicked off National Playground Safety Week.

Safe Kids is a local organization working with hospitals to help families prevent playground injuries.

There are some things you should be looking out for during playtime, whether at the park or at home.

"You also want to consider the type of equipment that you are allowing your child to play on. So there is smaller equipment for maybe kids 5 and under, and there is age appropriate equipment for children that are older, and a lot of those things it has to do with the height, more than likely that's smaller children's equipment, it's going to be lower to the ground so that's less of a fall for them, so less of a chance of getting an injury," said Gundersen  Trauma & Injury Prevention Coord. Kim Lombard.

She also says adult supervision can reduce the number of injuries by 45% and encourages families to talk to their kids about playground safety.
