Throughout our area, communities honored Memorial Day with parades and memorial services.

In La Crosse, a parade wound through downtown Monday morning in celebration of the men and women who have fought for the freedom we have today, especially those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Parade-goers say this day should have special meaning for all Americans. "I think it's always important to remember our service people and to keep them in our minds and in our hearts and in our prayers. And we like to remember them and think of them and teach our kids to respect them," said Karen Buehrle.

"We came out to support our veterans for their service. I know a lot of people that have served and it's a wonderful thing that they do," said Samantha McMahon.

"I want my children to have that respect and understanding with the people that serve our country and I think it's a big deal. It's very important," said the Fry family.
