UPDATE: Person who died in Black River Falls apartment fire identified

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) - UPDATE April 3: According to the Black River Falls Fire Department, the person that died in the fire at 1256 Harrison Street on April 2 is Kathryn Sage Montana, 31, of Black River Falls.

Autopsy results are pending toxicology test results which could take several weeks.


PREVIOUS: An overnight fire in Black River Falls left one person dead.

Officials with the Northwest Chapter of the American Red Cross said a residence in a six-unit apartment building on the 1200 block of Harrison Street in Black River Falls caught fire around 12:30 Sunday morning. 

Officials with the organization said one person died as a result of the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting through emergency funding for hotels, food and clothing for residents who were displaced.

The Black River Falls Fire Department says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. 

The occupant of the apartment unit where the fire started has not been located, however, foul play is not suspected.
