LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

Nurses at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse are more than half way to their goal of collecting blankets for people in need this winter.

So far, they've collected 576 blankets on their way to their goal of 1,000.

They picked up 11 blankets Thursday made by kids at Eagle Bluff School in Onalaska, and they are delivered them to kids at New Horizon's Women's Shelter.

These blankets are particularly special because they are made by kids for kids. "It's a lesson in generosity, but I certainly think during this season of giving it also gives them something back for being so generous," said Kathy Koehne from Gundersen.

The hospital is looking for a big push in donations before the holiday.

You can drop off your donation at any Gundersen Clinic or at one of the valet parking locations on the Gundersen campus.
