LA CROSSE, Wis. -

The man accused of shooting a pistol in a wooded area north of Riverside Park made his first court appearance Wednesday.

Police arrested 32-year-old Kenneth Yahnke Tuesday afternoon after hearing between eight and ten shots within a three minute span.

According to the criminal complaint, authorities found Yahnke at a campsite with a .22 caliber handgun, an air rifle, and a large amount of ammunition and knives.

Police report as they approached Yahnke, they saw him pick up a rifle that was lying across the front of his legs and fire toward the extinguished campfire. Police also found an open bottle of alcohol. Yahnke's preliminary breath test was .028.

Upon arrest, Kenneth Yahnke gave police his brother's name. Kenneth Yahnke faces several charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, repeater; possession of a firearm while intoxicated, repeater; obstructing an officer, repeater; and disorderly conduct, use of a dangerous weapon, repeater.
