Onalaska applying for Bicycle Friendly Community Designation
The City of Onalaska is looking for national recognition for being bike-friendly.
The city is applying for the Bicycle Friendly Community Designation from the League of American Bicyclists.
They have worked toward the award by straightening lanes and designating several bike routes.
And whenever they repair a road they have bike-safe paths in mind.
They hope the award will help boost toursim possibilities by letting people know they are bike-friendly.
"It's a way for letting cyclists know that they can come to this community and that it's a safe environment for recreational cyclists or hardcore cyclists that want to get out and use the road as their main avenue for travelling," said Onalaska City Planner Katie Meyer.
The city applied for the designation in 2011 and came in as a runner-up.
Since then they've worked to fix the reasons they fell short and hope to win this year.
