1902: Film studio executive and producer Darryl F. Zanuck, who played a major part in the Hollywood studio system, is born in Wahoo, Nebraska. Zanuck worked for Warner Bros. in the 1920s before leaving to co-found 20th Century Films in 1933, which two years later became 20th Century Fox. He was nominated for 14 Academy Awards for his work as a producer, with "How Green Was My Valley," "Gentleman's Agreement" and "All About Eve" capturing Best Picture. He died of jaw cancer at age 77 on Dec. 22, 1979.
