1981: Tennis player Serena Williams, who has won 33 grand slam titles (18 in singles, 13 in women's doubles, and two in mixed doubles) and has been ranked No. 1 in singles on six separate occasions in her career, is born in Saginaw, Michigan. Williams, the younger sister of fellow tennis star Venus Williams, became the World No. 1 for the first time on July 8, 2002, and regained the ranking for the sixth time on Feb. 18, 2013, becoming, at age 31, the oldest No. 1 player in the World Tennis Association's history.
