1930: Poet and composer Shel Silverstein is born in Chicago, Illinois. He is best known for books such as "Where the Sidewalk Ends" and "The Giving Tree" and for writing songs such as "A Boy Named Sue," "One's on the Way" and "The Cover of the Rolling Stone." He died of a heart attack at age 68 in May 1999.
