2003: Singer-songwriter and actor Sheb Wooley, best known for his 1958 novelty song "The Purple People Eater," dies of leukemia at age 82 in Nashville, Tenn. He also played Ben Miller, brother of Frank Miller in the film "High Noon," played Travis Cobb in "The Outlaw Josey Wales," and had a co-starring role as scout Pete Nolan in the TV series "Rawhide" (pictured, left).
