1885: Poet Ezra Pound, whose best-known works include "Ripostes," "Hugh Selwyn Mauberley" and his unfinished 120-section epic "The Cantos," is born in Hailey, Idaho Territory. He died in his sleep of an intestinal blockage at age 87 on Nov. 1, 1972.
