1952: Hall of Fame basketball player Bill Walton is born in La Mesa, California. Walton led the UCLA Bruins to two national titles in the early 1970s and went onto success in the NBA, winning an MVP award and two championships, once each with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Boston Celtics.
