1856: Louis Brandeis, who would go on to become a U.S. Supreme Court justice from 1916 to 1939, is born in Louisville, Ky. Brandeis, who was the first Jewish person to serve on the Supreme Court and was known for his dedication to progressive social causes, became one of the most famous and influential figures ever to serve on the high court.
