1981: Actor William Holden, who starred in such blockbusters as "Sunset Boulevard," "The Bridge on the River Kwai," "The Wild Bunch" and "Network," bleeds to death after slipping on a rug while intoxicated in his Santa Monica, California, apartment and severely cutting his forehead on a bedside table. Holden, who was 63 when he died, received Oscar nominations for Best Actor for "Sunset Boulevard" and "Network" and won in 1954 for "Stalag 17."
