1996: An Israeli court convicts Yigal Amir, the confessed assassin of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, of murder, then sentences the former law student to life in prison. Amir also received another six years for injuring Rabin's bodyguard in the November 4, 1995, shooting and would later be sentenced to an additional eight years for conspiracy to murder.
