1874: Robert Frost, one of the most popular and critically respected American poets of his generation, is born in San Francisco, Calif. Frost, whose best known works include "The Gift Outright," "Neither Out Too Far Nor In Too Deep," "Acquainted with the Night" and "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening," received four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry during his lifetime.
