1971: The day after a Pakistan Army crackdown on civilians in East Pakistan, the provincial state declares its independence from Pakistan to form the People's Republic of Bangladesh, sparking the Bangladesh Liberation War. The war pitted the newly formed Bangladesh and India against West Pakistan, and lasted over a duration of nine months.
