1911: Playwright Tennessee Williams, best known for works such as "A Streetcar Named Desire," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "The Glass Menagerie" and "The Night of the Iguana," is born Thomas Lanier Williams III in Columbus, Miss. He died at age 71 on Feb. 25, 1983.
