1902: Blues singer and guitarist Eddie James "Son" House Jr., noted for his highly emotional style of singing and slide guitar playing, is born in Lyon, Mississippi. In a short career interrupted by a spell in Parchman Farm penitentiary for allegedly killing a man in self-defense, Son House was a formative influence on blues greats like Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters.
