1837: Grover Cleveland, the only U.S. president to serve two non-consecutive terms (1885–1889 and 1893–1897), is born in Caldwell, New Jersey. Cleveland was both the 22nd and 24th president of the United States and also narrowly won the popular vote in his re-election bid in 1888 but lost the electoral vote.
