1992: Filmmaker and producer Richard Brooks dies of congestive heart failure at age 79 in Studio City, California. Brooks directed the movies "Blackboard Jungle," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "Elmer Gantry," "In Cold Blood" and "Looking for Mr. Goodbar," earning an Academy Award for Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) for "Elmer Gantry." He was nominated for another seven Oscars, including Best Director nominations for "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "The Professionals" and "In Cold Blood."
