Salem is gripped by witch hysteria, Yellowstone becomes the world's first national park, the Lindbergh baby is kidnapped, and the Watergate Seven are indicted, all on this day.
1932: The 20-month-old son of Charles Lindbergh, Charles Augustus Lindbergh III, is kidnapped from his family's home in East Amwell, New Jersey. More than two months later, on May 12, 1932, his body was discovered a short distance from the Lindberghs' home. After an investigation that lasted more than two years, Bruno Richard Hauptmann was arrested and charged with the crime. He was eventually found guilty of murder in the first degree and was executed by electric chair on April 3, 1936.
