1906: Estée Lauder, the entrepreneur and co-founder of Estée Lauder Companies, is born Josephine Esther Mentzer in Corona, Queens, New York. Lauder founded the cosmetics company with her husband, Joseph Lauder, in 1935. Lauder, seen here, at left, with a customer in 1966, died at the age of 95 on April 24, 2004.
