1932: Actress Piper Laurie, known for her Academy Award-nominated roles the films "The Hustler," "Carrie" and "Children of a Lesser God," is born in Detroit, Michigan. Laurie is also known for her Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning role as Catherine Martell in the TV series "Twin Peaks."
