1967: Singer-songwriter Kurt Cobain, best known as the frontman of the grunge band Nirvana, is born in Aberdeen, Washington. Nirvana found breakthrough success with the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from its second album, 1991's "Nevermind," and defined the grunge era before Cobain committed suicide at the age of 27 in April 1994.
