1925: Film director Robert Altman, best known for movies such as "MASH," "McCabe and Mrs. Miller," "Nashville," "The Player," "Short Cuts" and "Gosford Park," is born in Kansas City, Missouri. Altman is seen here backstage with his honorary Oscar statuette for his career achievments during the 78th Annual Academy Awards on March 5, 2006, about eight months before dying from leukemia at the age of 81.
