1988: Composer Frederick Loewe (left), who collaborated with lyricist Alan Jay Lerner (right) to create some of the world's most popular and enduring works of musical theater for both the stage and on film, dies at age 86 in Palm Springs, California. Some of Loewe's best known works with Lerner include "Brigadoon," "Gigi," "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot."
