1988: Michael Jackson buys a ranch in Santa Barbara County, California, that he names "Neverland," after the fantasy island in the story of "Peter Pan." The ranch became Jackson's home as well as his private amusement park, containing a floral clock, numerous statues of children and a petting zoo.
