1993: Rock musician, composer and film director Frank Zappa dies of prostate cancer at the age of 52 in Los Angeles. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Zappa wrote rock, jazz and orchestral works, and produced nearly all of the more than 60 albums he released with the band The Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist.
