2007: After earlier opting out of the final years of the record 10-year, $252 million contract he signed in 2000, shortstop Alex Rodriguez signs a 10-year, $275 million deal with the New York Yankees, marking the biggest contract in sports history at the time. The contract was eventually exceeded by the 13-year, $325 million extension Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton signed in November 2014.
