1912: Figure skater and actress Sonja Henie, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, a 10-time World champion and a six-time European champion, is born in Oslo, Norway. After retiring from amateur competition in 1936, she took up a career as a professional performer in acting and live shows, becoming one of the highest paid stars in Hollywood during the height of her fame. She died from leukemia at age 57 on Oct. 12, 1969.
