1945: American and Soviet troops meet in Torgau, Germany, along the River Elbe, cutting the armed forces of Nazi Germany in two, a milestone in the approaching end of World War II in Europe. Adolf Hitler committed suicide in his Berlin bunker four days later. Seen here is U.S. Army 2nd Lt. William Robertson and Lt.
