1993: Cesar Chavez, the farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, dies of natural causes at the age of 66 in San Luis, Arizona. After his death he became a major historical icon for the Latino community, organized labor, and the liberal movement, symbolizing support for workers and for Hispanic power based on grass-roots organizing.
