1935: Pop singer Bobby Vinton, best known for his cover of the song "Blue Velvet," which hit No. 1 for him in 1963, is born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. He also scored No. 1 hits with the songs "Roses Are Red (My Love)" and "Mr. Lonely" and saw success with the songs "There! I've Said It Again," "I Love How You Love Me" and "My Melody of Love."
