1970: American author John O'Hara, who became a best-selling novelist by the age of 30 with "Appointment in Samarra" and "BUtterfield 8," dies from cardiovascular disease at the age of 65 in Princeton, N.J. O'Hara was also known for his short stories and the novels "Pal Joey" and "Ten North Frederick."
